Note Book
For my note book cover I wanted to make a cover that I could actually use. I designed a shot list notepad which I could use to keep track of video shots. Film makers use shot lists to stay organized and ensure that they don't miss any angles that they might need.
Overall I'm happy with how the cover turned out.
Water Bottle Engraving
For my water bottle design, I made a design using an alpine snowboarder cartoon, and some text. I'm on Waunakee's snowboard racing team, so it was a fitting water bottle graphic.
Before engraving a water bottle, I had to learn how to set up the laser to engrave a cylindrical object. The process wasn't too much different from regular engraving, you just have to think about the engraving process a little differently...
Overall, I'm very happy with how the design turned out. Engraving a water bottle was actually much easier than I expected...
3D Laser Project
At first I had issues finding a 3D laser design on Thing Verse. The only files i could find were .STL files, when I needed an Illustrator project file. The .STL files were for the 3D printer. Eventually I stumbled on this rocket design.
After I engraved the design, I realized that the thickness was different from the cardboard the designer on Thing Verse used. Because of this, I couldn't slide the rings down the rocket ship, that held it together. My rocket ship ended up working fine, however, because the three points in the middle actually can balance on each other to allow the rocket to stand up.
I definitely learned the most in this rotation because we had so many different projects using the laser engraver. I learned how to engrave multiple types of materials, and I also learned how to engrave a cylindrical water bottle. I also had to learn how to make my rocket ship design work. Although my fix wasn't permanent, it worked for my specific needs.
