First I designed my widget in Inventor. My design method, looking back, could have been done better, but in the end, I still had the same result. We also went back and changed the height of the cylindrical tube to 1 inch rather than 1.5 inches.
Next using, Fushion 360, we generated the G-code for CNC Mill. Fushion 360 was a little bit frustrating at first, but we were able to figure it out...
It took me two tries to get the CNC Mill to cut my widget out. The first time, my foam block wasn't taped down enough to the cut platform, and the force of the drill spinning broke it free. The second attempt wasn't that pretty, either. The imperfections are just a draw back from using foam, rather than a harder material. Overall, I learned how to set up Fushion 360, for the CNC Mill, and I learned that foam isn't the best material to cut out...
